In this interview with Prof Oliver Otto, University of Greifswald and Founder of Zellmechanik Dresden, we explore mechanocytometry: technology to measure mechanical properties of cells populations. We explore the challenges, applications and future potential of the technology.

Oliver Otto is Professor of Cellular Biophysics at the University of Greifswald and Co-Founder of Zellmechanik Dresden, which is commercialising instruments for real-time deformability cytometry as one high-throughput method for the mechanical characterisation of cells in suspension. Oliver serves as the current president of the German Society for Cytometry. Oliver gained an interest in mechanocytometry through working with the late Jochen Guck in Dresden. He has a PhD in Biophysics from Cambridge University.
